Aftershow Antics
Welcome to another Pablo Eskimo update! Each week (or so) we plan to send out a note to all of our fans to let you know what we’ve been up to. Most recent on this list is our gig at The Alabama 3 aftershow party in Carlton Studios.
Now anyone that knows me (PabloAlaine) will know that The Alabama 3 are number one on my list of favourite bands… ever. Anyone that knows and appreciates their music will no doubt agree that these guys are cool. So it was a bit of a pleasant shock when we got asked by the wonderful folk at MOJO to play the Alabama 3 Oran Mor acoustic gig aftershow party! And with just 24 hours notice, we didn’t have a lot of time to prepare.
And so on Thursday I went about my normal day at my normal job, thinking nothing of what was on my desk in front of me, just of the aftershow party to get me through the day. Finally, it was time to leave work, go home and get ready to go to the studio. The night was on from 10:30pm till 3am and we had 6 bands on the bill.
We arrived there just after 9, hung about with some of the other band and had a laugh as usual. The main topic of conversation?....Charlie Sheen.
Now, a lot of people have some very strong opinions about good ol’ Charlie at the moment. Personally, I think he is nuts……but he’s still a hero! Anyone that can ‘bang 7 gram rocks,’ on a regular basis and still be alive commands a lot of respect in my book. And what with his ‘fire-breathing fists,’ his, ‘bitchin’ conduct,’ and ‘bi-winning’ attitude, who could disagree?

Anyway, back to my story. We did a quick soundcheck while all was still quiet then headed in the direction of booze. Folk started arriving about 10:45, and before we knew it the place was packed! Tons of folk arrived out of nowhere (including Lairy Love from the 'bama’s). Time to listen to a few rocking bands before we take the stage.
Our set was short, mainly down to the first band coming on half an hour late, but we played well and everyone really enjoyed us. We even put our cover of ‘Love Shack’ in just to mix things up, which was appreciated!
We left the stage to a chorus of ‘one more tune, one more tune’ which is usually a good sign that folks liked us. Then it was time to sit back and chill with my music idols. I can’t think of a better way to spend a Thursday night, can you?
