Gig....last minute....yey

So, Pablo have been busy over the last few months, but the one thing that we’ve now started to look at is Gigs. We’ve been slowly building up our Glasgow gigging calendar and it’s starting to look pretty healthy, but if I’m being honest, it could do with a bit more work.

You know the old adage about busses? None come along for ages then all of a sudden 2 come round the corner at once? We’ll that’s what Saturday was like. Johnboy got a call from Joe at Eruption Records asking if we could play on the 19th April. Needless to say our calendar was somewhat scantily clad so naturally we said yes. Then, he gets a call from Travis from Hippykiller to ask if we could play a last minute gig with themselves and Blood Drum at our old favourite The Vale that night!

After a few phonecalls between band members and gig organisers – so many phone calls in fact that John never actually got round to drinking the coffee he made at 9am that morning, we gave the go ahead to play The Vale at approximately 4pm. Soundcheck was at 6:30 so we allayed our usual Saturday night plans – which usually involves a party somewhere - and set our sights on gigging.

Now, because we’ve had other things on our mind, like the video and working on www.pabloeskimo.com etc, we’ve not really had the chance to play a humungous set this year. The gig at the Alabama 3 aftershow party was short but sweet, due to their being 6 bands on and an extremely finite time to fit us all in! So, this was the gig that we’d been waiting for. We were headlining and there was no time limit so why not take full advantage?

We figured that if we had free reign to do whatever we wanted, then we might as well break out the song we’d completed only a few days before. Risky? Yeh, but that seems to be the way we roll these days. On turning up at the Vale we found our trusty compadre Chris Gorman on the sound deck. Result! Not only did we have the headline spot, we also had one of the best engineers about to ensure our sound was going to be top notch.

We played our new song for soundcheck – it went ok, but the proof would be when we played it in front of a crowd. With that in our minds and after leaving the stage we went to find food. Burger King to be exact….all I can say is the chips were good…..purely because I only had chips…..

Back at the Vale, Blood Drum took the stage at 8:30. Time for some heavy rock and some cracking vocals, including lots of howling I have to add, which only added to the ambience they created!

Next, a completely different style in HippyKiller. Catchy tunes mixed with cynical lyrics and cowboy hats, not forgetting the never-miss-a-beat drum machine meant the crowd were in a fabulous mood just before we got on stage at 10pm….

Our gig was amazing. The new song went down a treat and we left the stage over an hour later with the crowd thankfully cheering for more. We felt mighty chuffed with ourselves so took the decision to party till the wee small hours of the morning……well, lets face it, we would have done that if it had been a shit gig or if we didn’t have a gig at all…..
